São Paulo, Brazil & Beverly Hills, CA (June 29, 2023) – ABKom, the Associação Brasileira de Kombucha, is pleased to announce that it has become a partner organization with Kombucha Brewers International, further strengthening the network of kombucha producers and promoting the growth of the industry globally. “This partnership is a positive step towards advancing the interests of the kombucha industry and facilitating collaboration among kombucha producers globally,” said Lucas Montanari, the current ABKom president and founder of Fermenta com Ciencia.

Founded in January 2018 by six producers including former KBI Member, Tao Kombucha, ABKom aims to unite, protect, and represent the interests of its members while promoting the growth and development of the Brazilian kombucha industry. ABKom provides a platform for interaction between producers, building a professional network of contacts that enhances opportunities, eliminates doubts, and unites associates in favor of the development of the category.

ABKom’s members and directors have worked tirelessly towards their first major objective: to include kombucha in Brazilian legislation with the competent bodies. This effort resulted in Normative Instruction No. 41, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), which establishes identity and quality standards for commercial production in the category. KBI assisted in this effort by providing language and research evidence to support their application.

ABKom now brings together several brands and producers from various regions of Brazil, and is poised to make a significant contribution to the future of the Brazilian kombucha industry.

“We are thrilled to become a partner organization with Kombucha Brewers International and further strengthen the network of kombucha producers around the world,” said Montanari. “Our goal with this partnership is to provide a united voice for the industry and promote its growth, while offering our members the opportunity to connect and learn from one another. We are excited to see what the future holds for KBI, ABKom and for the global kombucha industry,” shared KBI President, Hannah Crum.
